Baumgaertner's Favorite Brushes
A good hog bristle brush must be strong, firm, hold its shape and have a satisfying, resilient spring or "pop". It must be of high quality, professionally made, and be able to withstand abuse. The Silver Grand Prix is a superb bristle brush. In addition to having all the qualities one would demand of a good bristle brush, the Silver Brush Grand Prix is also exquisitely well balanced and the bristles have a responsiveness that handles the most exacting and nuanced passages with finesse. It is without doubt the premier bristle brush on the market.
The Silverstone Filbert brush is a real workhorse. It can take a beating, mass like a palette knife, but with the twist of the wrist, delicately maneuver into the most intricate area. As a guts and glory brush, I can't live without it.
The Silver Renaissance Sable Cats Tongue is ideal for finishing work. Unusual in a sable brush, the Renaissance Cats Tongue has a firm tapered base that firmly holds the shape of the brush, and its pliable soft tip affords a lovely controlled subtleness and sensitivity. It is the perfect sable for my portrait work.
