Welcome to the Baumgaertner Atelier in picturesque downtown La Crosse, WI!
La Crosse is a Mississippi river town full of quaint shops, Victorian homes, Mississippi River boats, Riverside parks, and the worlds largest six-pack. It is surrounded by bluffs, marshes, and river-ways and hosts many hiking and biking trails, golf and tennis courses, as well as camping and fishing sites.
Baumgaertner Atelier is in the center of downtown La Crosse and an easy walking distance to housing accommodations, restaurants, shops, and recreation. The 3000 square foot Atelier space includes two model stands, an office, library, teaching and break areas, an art store, kitchen and two bathrooms. The area has been set up as a very comfortable space to paint, learn and absorb inspiration from the masters.
Charcoal Figure Workshop
The Margaret Carter Baumgaertner Atelier teaches a proven step-by-step process of painting a portrait from start to finish. Workshops available include charcoal, sauce, and oil painting (beginner through advanced), plein air (painting outdoors), theory, figure drawing, and mentoring. You can attend one workshop, several, or choose to immerse yourself in drawing and painting in one of the Atelier workshops.
The workshops include lecture and demonstration as well as significant easel time. Employing a teaching method that combines the disciplines of drawing, tonality and color, Baumgaertner's twist on Classical Atelier training is a surprisingly effective workshop experience.
Three Value Lecture
Students draw or paint from live models. Classes are kept small, allowing for many opportunities for one-on-one instruction. As the students progress, Baumgaertner tailors her instruction to the advancing skill level.
